Top Five Questions Every CISO Should Ask Their Threat Intelligence Platform Provider About Agentic AI

Not every threat intelligence platform that claims agentic AI has actually built it. While, some have made it a core architectural commitment, others have wrapped a thin AI layer around a product never designed for it. Before you sign anything, there are five questions worth asking.

Where are we today as an industry?

Every threat intelligence platform provider is talking about agentic AI. Most are using the same words: autonomous, intelligent, adaptive. But the gap between what is marketed and what is actually built varies significantly. Some companies are going all-in on AI-first design; others are just dressing up old software with a thin AI wrapper.

For a CISO or security architect, that distinction determines whether agentic AI becomes a force multiplier for your security operations team or just another layer of complexity. Here are the five questions that cut through the pitch.

Question 1: How does agentic AI actually change the way threat intelligence is analyzed, compared to a traditional TIP?

This is the foundational question, and the answer tells you a lot about whether a provider has genuinely rethought their platform or just added a feature.

A traditional TIP collects and correlates threat data. It surfaces indicators, supports manual enrichment, and depends heavily on analysts to connect the dots. The platform serves as an augmented workspace; while the analyst directs the inquiry and provides final judgment, the system proactively surfaces patterns and automates the heavy lifting of data synthesis.

An agentic AI TIP inverts that model. Agents autonomously triage incoming intelligence, enrich indicators against your environment and via external databases, identify relationships across large data sets, and surface prioritized findings before an analyst even opens a queue. The platform does not just store intelligence but acts on it.

Ask your provider to walk you through a specific investigation scenario. What did the analyst have to do manually three years ago? What does the agent handle today? The delta between those two answers is the actual value of agentic AI in threat intelligence, and a platform built for it will have a concrete, demonstrable answer.

Question 2: How does your agentic AI adapt to our specific threat profile, industry, and operational context?

A platform serving a global bank and a regional hospital should not behave identically. The value comes from the system learning your environment: your adversary landscape, your risk tolerance, your team's decision patterns, and your compliance requirements.

Mature platforms learn from every incident analysts work through. Corrections feed back into the model and the system gets smarter about your organization over time, not just smarter in general.

Also ask how quickly the provider responds to changing needs. Threat environments evolve faster than annual release cycles. Providers who use AI in their own product development ship updates in weeks, not quarters.

Question 3: How much control do analysts retain over what the AI does autonomously, and what happens when it gets it wrong?

Explainability is table stakes now. The real question in a production security environment is governance: who decides what the agent acts on, what requires human approval before execution, and how the system handles a bad call.

Autonomous action without clear intervention points creates serious operational risk. Analysts need the ability to set thresholds for when the agent escalates versus acts, override decisions mid-execution, and feed corrections back into the system in a way that actually changes future behavior. That last part matters more than most providers acknowledge.

Ask your provider to walk through a scenario where the agent made the wrong call. How did the analyst catch it? How did the correction get applied? A platform built for real security operations has a clear, specific answer to both. Anything vague is a sign the governance layer has been an afterthought.

Auditability still matters, but the bar has moved. Analyst control over what the AI does next is the standard worth holding providers to.

Question 4: How does your platform scale as our threat volume grows?

Threat intelligence volume does not stay flat. As your organization expands its feed coverage, adds new data sources, or faces a surge in threat activity, the platform has to absorb that growth without slowing down or degrading the quality of what agents surface.

The scalability question has two dimensions most vendors conflate. The first is infrastructure: can the platform ingest at volume without processing delays? The second is intelligence quality: do agents continue to prioritize and reason accurately when they are working through a spike, or does everything become noise? A platform that handles the first but fails the second has not solved the problem.

Ask your provider both questions directly. And ask whether the pricing model scales with you in a way that does not create incentives to artificially cap your own visibility. Security teams should never be in a position where ingesting more data costs them analytical clarity.

Question 5: What does your agentic AI roadmap look like, and how do you prioritize it?

Threat actors are already using AI to automate campaigns, accelerate vulnerability discovery, and adapt evasion techniques in real time. The capabilities that matter today will need to evolve to keep pace, and that requires sustained investment from your platform provider.

Ask what is in active development right now and what the timeline is. Ask how customer feedback shapes what gets built. Providers genuinely invested in agentic AI for threat intelligence answer these questions with specificity.

All five questions test one thing: whether agentic AI is a platform-level commitment or a feature-level addition. Providers who have made that commitment answer with specificity, evidence, and working systems.
