Introducing the New Risk Score Engine: Smarter, Flexible, Customizable Threat Prioritization

Shweta Ghosh

Our new Risk Score Engine in the Cyware Intel Exchange platform v3.7.4 goes above and beyond the previous Confidence Score Engine, offering a smarter, more flexible, and highly customizable capability.

This transformation brings more than just a new name. The Risk Score Engine features a streamlined interface, enhanced scoring logic, and greater customization capabilities that allow security teams to assess and act on threats with unparalleled precision.

Risk-First Intelligence for Better Decision-Making

The traditional confidence-based scoring served its purpose well, but modern threat landscapes demand a more risk-centric approach. Organizations need to move beyond simple trust scores to contextual, flexible, and operationally relevant risk assessments. With the new Risk Score Engine, we’re putting that power directly into your hands.

What’s New in the Risk Score Engine?

You can now customize the risk score by fine-tuning the weightage of different components like:

  • Source credibility: You can take control of how much credibility and recency of a threat data source impacts the overall score. You can:
    • Assign custom weightage to each source based on trust and reliability.
    • Elevate the influence of your most trusted intelligence providers.
    • Ensure the latest and validated data is prioritized in scoring.
  • Enrichment tools: Not all enrichment tools are high-fidelity sources of information. The Risk Score Engine allows you to:
    • Define how your preferred enrichment tools contribute to the score.
    • Customize weightage to reflect reliability and context provided by enrichment platforms.
    • Increase scoring precision with contextual insights from internal and external enrichment.
  • Indicator attributes: Every indicator comes with unique attributes such as Geographical Location, File Hash Reputation, Associated Malware Family or Threat Actors, and custom attributes such as severity, relevance, etc. Now you can:
    • Set attribute-specific weightage to highlight what’s most relevant to your threat model.
    • Dynamically adjust scores based on indicator behavior, type, and associated metadata.
    • Fine-tune risk interpretation based on real-time intelligence attributes.
  • Decay Information: Threat intelligence must be timely to be effective. With Decay information, you can:
    • Define decay periods for each indicator type.
    • Automatically reduce the influence of stale confidence and enrichment scores over time.
    • Prioritize recent intelligence from sources and tools that deliver up-to-date data.
  • Leverage external scores for consistent threat evaluation: Cyware now enables you to incorporate risk scores from trusted third-party sources as the final Risk Score. This ensures consistency across your security ecosystem, reliability in threat evaluations, and harmonized threat assessments.
  • Built-in Risk Score Simulator: This powerful tool lets you model different scoring strategies and immediately see their effects on indicator prioritization.

The Result - Prioritized, Actionable Threat Intelligence

With the new Risk Score Engine, threat intelligence becomes an even more powerful decision-making tool. By tailoring how risks are scored and interpreted, your security teams can focus on what’s truly relevant and high-risk, improve triage and incident response, and drive automated actions with higher confidence.
